- UAE schools to close for 12 days
All public and private schools in the UAE will close for 12 days for the country's National Day and the Eid Al Adha holidays, the Ministry of Education announced on Monday. All schools that apply the curriculum of the Ministry of Education will have holidays from December 2 to 13. Classes at schools will resume on Sunday, December 14. - 2007 Nobel laureate to lecture at Qatar's Medical College
The recipient of last year's Nobel Prize in medicine, Sir Martin Evans, is to deliver a lecture at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar. The lecture, titled 'The Origins of Embryonic Stem Cells', will be the third in Qatar Foundation's distinguished lecture series. The event aims at acquainting the local community with the experiences of world-class scientists and encourages scientific discussion and exchange of ideas. - Overseas Saudi students to receive more allowance
Saudi students pursuing higher studies abroad will now get 50% more allowance. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz announced the government's decision while receiving a group of Saudi students at his residence. The King urged Saudi students to work hard in their academic pursuit and become good ambassadors for the kingdom. - Hamad Medical to train pharmacists
As part of a joint initiative to produce qualified pharmacists in Qatar, the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will provide clinical training to students of the College of Pharmacy at Qatar University. An agreement was signed by Qatar University President Dr Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad and HMC Managing Director Dr Hanan Al Kuwari to allow students to receive practical training in an acute health care environment. - Abu Dhabi to apply new standards
The Education Ministry will apply local and international academic standards developed by the Abu Dhabi Education Council in public schools as part of a cohesive academic accreditation process. Ten public schools will be selected to bring forward new standards aimed at raising the standard of education in the UAE to international levels.
