  • Impact of the Financial and Economic Crisis on Financial Aid
With the recent turmoil in the financial markets many students and parents are wondering about the availability of financial aid and particular student loans. Students will continue to have access to federal and state financial aid including federal student loans. Private alternative loans have been affected by this financial crisis. These are non-federal loans. Many lending institutions have stopped offering these loans due to the credit crunch. There are some lenders that are offering these loans. However, they are making the terms more restrictive.

We feel that many of our student’s families may be affected by job loss, foreclosures and other financial hardships. We foresee that for the 2009-10 financial aid processing year we will have a large increase in requests for a second review of family income and other financial situations. We are prepared to assist students and families who have experienced drastic changes in their financial situation. If you have students who have expressed a concern about not being able to stay in school due to financial reasons please encourage them to contact the Financial Aid Office. The same goes for prospective students for fall 09. We will explore all of the resources we have available and make every attempt to help these students.
